Hand-Distressed Tapestry

Introducing The Hand-Distressed / Deconstructed Tapestry

What does the Hand-Distressed Tapestry attempt to communicate? We view this in three different ways:

Historical Fidelity: Our prints are reproductions of originals that are at least 100 years old and in the public domain. The originals naturally show signs of aging, such as cracking and surface rumpling. We find these imperfections endearing and aim to convey this charm to the observer.

Metaphorical Journey: The distressing effect symbolizes a journey of the art object. The original image, with its value and meaning, travels with the observer. A physical rendition of this image offers a point of contemplation. The worn, distressed nature of the print reflects the idea of an object that has been lovingly “carried” over time, much like a cherished teddy bear that a child has carried for years.

Aesthetic Appeal: You might simply appreciate the look of the prints and enjoy having them as part of your decor.

The hanging tapestry format was chosen for the following reasons:

Economy: Without the need for expensive framing, costs are kept to a minimum. However, this does not mean the prints are cheaply made. On the contrary, they are printed with pigments designed for long-lasting color fastness and on tear- and water-resistant substrate material for durability.

Craftsmanship: Each print is created by a Fine Art Digital Printmaker who has taken great care in the reproduction process. The Printmaker interprets each image uniquely, providing the viewer with a distinct experience. Our goal is not strict reproduction fidelity but rather to align with our mission of reimagining found objects.

Mission: We feel that it is important that our prints are authentically produced by hand within our community. We believe our products are more than the sum of their elements. We want you to believe in our mission of not just selling products solely for monetary purposes. We want you to dig a little deeper into our images and think about how they are meaningful to YOU.
